Moving or Selling Your Home

If you are moving or selling your home there are a few steps that you need to be aware of before you move or list your home for sale. This will help eliminate any surprises that may pop up when you contact your security monitoring supplier to discontinue service at your present address.

  • Contact your security provider, in our case SecurTek, to confirm the status of your contract and determine whether you have an outstanding monetary commitment for monitoring.
  • Check to confirm whether you own the security equipment or, if you are leasing, determine the outstanding amount still owing. If it leased you will need to find out what the balance of the payout is as this may become a factor when you discontinue the service.
  • You should include the value of the security system in the value of the home as it is an asset much like your appliances.
  • You have the option of moving the system with you to your new location. However, you would incur the cost of labor for removal and relocation.
  • In most cases it is better to sell the system with the house.
  • The balance of the monitoring contract is due at the time you discontinue the service at your old location. The added benefit with SecurTek is, when you move to your new location and set up a new contract, they forgive the balance of the previous contract.
