Preventing False Alarms

Prevent False AlarmsThere are 11 easy steps that can be done to help prevent false alarms in your home and/or business, making it a safe environment 24/7.

  1. Memorize your Code – 49% of false alarms are due to forgotten codes. Try thinking of a system that works for you to remember it, while at the same time keeping it hidden from others.
  2. User Education – ensure that all the users and key holders for your system know their codes, are fully trained on your system and know where to find the number for the monitoring station. In the case of key holders, just because they have a system in their house doesn’t mean they will be able to use yours.
  3. Functions Knowledge – ensure that all users on your system know how to use the ‘Stay’ and ‘Away’ function; this can be found in your user manual.
  4. Refresh and Restart – always remember, if you make a mistake when putting in your code, stay calm and push the ‘#’ key as this will refresh the system so you can start your code over again.
  5. Accidental Alarm – if the alarm is accidentally set off, wait 2-5 minutes for the monitoring station to call to ensure your system is working properly and to tell them all is OK. If they don’t call then you know your system isn’t working properly and you should contact them.
  6. Time Delays – if you feel you don’t have enough time to get to and from your panel to disarm the system simply call us and we will re-set it for a time frame that is more comfortable for you.
  7. Pets – if you bring a new family member home call us so we can make your system pet friendly, this will avoid pets setting off the system when you are not home.
  8. Repairs – ensure all loose-fitting windows and doors are repaired and closed properly prior to arming the system. If there is a big wind or structural shift it could move the window or door enough to set off your contact.
  9. Batteries – ensure your batteries are fully charged at all times.
  10. New codes – test all new user codes by arming and disarming the system to ensure they are functioning properly.
  11. Test – you should be testing your system once a month to ensure it is working properly. Before doing so inform the monitoring station that you are testing your system so they don’t send any emergency personal incorrectly.
